The Alpha Tau Omega and Phi Kappa Tau fraternities are teaming together to create the first ever "Life Fest" event on September 19, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m, in the Quad.

"Life Fest" was an idea unfortunately created out of tragedy. In February 2008, Andrew Youtz of Phi Kappa Tau lost his mother after a long battle of cancer. In December 2008, Kevin Williams of Alpha Tau Omega lost his father due to heart failure.

"Life Fest is an opportunity to give back to the campus community that gave so much to me. When I lost my mom everyone on campus rallied around to lift up my spirits. Phi Tau and Alpha Tau Omega are two great fraternities with great guys; this event shows people that fraternity life means more than wearing letters. It means living what they stand for," said Youtz.

"Mount Union and Alpha Tau Omega have given me so much to enhance my life. When my father passed away in December, I lost a man who represents all that is good in this world.

By bringing two great fraternities together to start scholarships brings me unbelievable joy. The bands along with the festivities will be a great night of fun to celebrate those who mean the most to us," Williams added.

These two young men will honor the lives of their loved ones through this beneficial and memorable event.

The "Celebration of Life" will serve as a charity concert available for all Mount Union students. All proceeds for the event will go directly towards two memorial scholarships for those in financial need.

HellBranch Run, Everything Zen and The Woovs are the three bands that will perform at this event.

Food and beverages will be provided. Cornhole will also be a featured attraction. The cost to attend "Life Fest" is $2 before and $3 at the door.
