Texting has become a huge phenomenon over the last few years. Although we all love it so much, there is a time to text and a time when it is just plain rude.

Although texting is simply rude in certain situations, it can also be dangerous. It may sound unbelievable, but there have been many incidents reported due to this phenomenon.

According to the American College of Emergency Physicians Foundation, Dr. Lewin MD, PhD, reports an incident of a woman getting hit by a truck while texting. This woman was in her twenties, and she was texting as she stepped off a curb into the road.

As she got hit by the truck, she was thrown about twenty-five feet. She was unconscious and survived all the way to the trauma center, but unfortunately died in the ER.

Another fatal incident involving text messages is a story of a train collision in California.

The New York Times' writers Jesse McKinely and Matthew Wald report that in September of this year, a train carrying about 225 passengers ran a red light and collided with another train just outside of Los Angeles.

It was later found through texting records that the train conductor had been sending out text messages while driving the train.

This was the worst domestic train crash since 1993, with twenty-five deaths and over 130 people injured.

Currently, there is legislation being considered on the topic of texting in sixteen different states.

In a New York Times article by Jennifer Lee, it is stated that already there are four states that have a law against texting while driving. These states, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association, include Alaska, Minnesota, New Jersey and Washington.

All this being said, it is important to keep in mind some tips while texting.

On a lighter note, there are many texting DO's and DON'Ts that I think everyone should obey.

My opinion is that most people text because it's easier than calling most of the time. It's an easy and quick way to get a message out.

I love texting, and know that I will continue to text. College students spend a lot of their free time texting.

Be sure to keep in mind the horror stories of texting and be safe while you're on your phone.

Remember the tips I've told you for when to text and when not to text.

Happy Texting!
